
Jessie Jannuska is a Winnipeg-based multidisciplinary Indigenous artist and Art Workshop Facilitator. She is mixed Dakota, Ojibway, and settler and is a band member of Canupawakpa Dakota Nation. She graduated with a BFA with honors from Brandon University IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art in 2018. Jannuska primarily works in mixed media, beadwork, comics, acrylic, and murals. She uses a cathartic lens when storytelling to explore her Indigenous culture and share other Indigenous peoples’ stories of healing to try to create change. Jannuska utilizes portraiture, contemporary beadwork style, and mixed media to create the visual language that represents her Indigenous spirituality and that of others.
Jessie facilitates art programming in:
Beadwork, drawing (portraiture, etc), painting step-by-step, crankie storytelling scroll art, dreamcatchers, basic comic making, sweetgrass baskets, mixed media, and mural work.
Gives artist talk presentations to all ages.
Seven Teachings Art Collective (STAC)
Jannuska is a co-founder of the Seven Teachings Art Collective (STAC) which aims to offer free art programming and artist mentorship to Indigenous folks of all ages. Non-Indigenous allies are welcome to attend when space allows. STAC is generously funded by the Manitoba Arts Council.
